Vitality 10k - Race for WaterAid
On Monday 28th May, TeamLoDEG stepped up to the challenge of completing the Vitality London 10,000; a 10k race through some of the most famous streets in London. Team LoDEG consisted of eight ‘athletes’ (of varying fitness and skill!) from across the GLA, Local Authorities, Thames Water and the Thames Flood Advisors.
The team were all running on behalf of WaterAid, a charity that looks to help provide access to clean water and sanitation for the 844 million people in this world living without access to clean water and the 2.3 billion people without access to a decent toilet. With all of TeamLoDEG working within water related industries, this is therefore a charity they are all particularly passionate about. TeamLoDEG have managed to raise (so far) a quite phenomenal £4,757.20 with donations from colleagues, family and friends, as well as an extremely generous pledge of £2,000 from Thames Water towards this great cause.
Despite the rather oppressive conditions (heat & humidity) all 8 runners completed the race, with some managing to obtain PBs in the process, although it is fair to say that Sir Mo was rarely threatened by the team’s presence in the race! The runners are still in the throes of recovery from their physical exertions but they maintain that they all really enjoyed the day. Perhaps this is just the start of many more team sporting events bringing together the various organisations from across London.
